Not a gradle fan. But, build systems are pretty difficult. Scala's SBT seemed like it was going somewhere, but it was complicated it its own way.

I would love to see a build system that uses a DSL with a language like Ruby to be elegant while expressing various configuration setups. Maybe there's an opportunity and Android Java and JRuby.
